RESEARCH DEGREES

There are two postgraduate degrees at Australian Catholic University in which students may undertake research work in the fields of Early Christian and Late Antique Studies: Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). Students interested in enrolling for either of these degrees need to consult the University's handbook for complete details (including information about fees and scholarships) and need to consult the Director of the Centre of Early Christian Studies in order to discuss questions of supervision. Students would be expected to have a proficiency in the ancient languages relevant to their proposed field of research (Latin, Greek, Syriac, Coptic, etc.) and a proficiency in modern languages in which relevant research is published (usually French, German, Italian).

MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY

The maximum period of study for this degree is two years full-time or four years part-time. To be eligible to enroll a prospective student must possess a Bachelor's Degree with at least level IIB Honours. Students who do not have this qualification need to consult the Handbook's regulations for this degree. The student is required to submit a dissertation of 50,000 words and to participate in seminar presentations and other requirements as specified in the Handbook.

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY

The maximum period of study for this degree is four years full-time or eight years part-time. Prospective students need to consult the handbook for eligibility to enroll. The student is required to submit a dissertation of 100,000 words and to participate in seminar presentations and other requirements as specified in the Handbook.
