VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY

Endowed Chair in the Thought of St. Augustine

Villanova University is seeking nominations and applications for an outstanding candidate to fill the Chair in the Thought of St. Augustine. The Chair, which is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, was endowed in 1994 by the Augustinians of the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova to celebrate and strengthen the continuing influence of St. Augustine on their ministry of higher education. It complements recent initiatives of the University in establishing the Augustinian Institute and the Department of Humanities and Augustinian Tradition. The Chair is seen as a vital component of the unique Augustinian mission of the University, and its holder will be expected to play a leading academic role in the long-term advancement of Augustinian scholarship both within the University and outside. The holder of the Chair must demonstrate an ability to work in an interdisciplinary manner, in particular with the disciplines of philosophy and theology; however, the position is open to candidates from other disciplines in the humanities.

Nominations and applicants must already be well-recognized for their Augustinian scholarship both nationally and internationally. Salary will be competitive. Applications must include a statement of qualification for the Chair, a current cv, and the names of three references. Villanova is an AA/EEO employer and seeks a diverse faculty committed to scholarship, service, and especially teaching, who understand, respect, and can contribute to the mission and values of the University.

Deadline for applications is November 1, 2004.

Villanova University is a Catholic university founded and sponsored by the Order of St. Augustine.
