The Society of St John Chrysostom is an ecumenical group of clergy and lay people who strive to promote Eastern Christianity and ecumenical dialogue between the Eastern and Western Churches. In Australasia the society was inaugurated at its first General Meeting during the international ecumenical conference Orientale Lumen: Australasia and Oceania held in Melbourne, 9-12 July 2000. The Australasian Chapter has chosen St Francis and St Seraphim, along with St John Chrysostom, as its heavenly patrons precisely because the saints appeared after the tragedy of schism had taken place. Their lives reveal that at the most profound level there has been no schism.
